

Don Luis Alberto Mora, affectionately known as “Don Luis” by friends and those who knew him, passed away at the age of 93. Born in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, he was a man deeply loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him, remembered for his warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, but also everyone’s favorite uncle - a role he embraced with joy, generosity, and endless affection.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Miriam; his daughter Perla (Hector); his grandchildren Luis Alberto, Adrian, Kayla, Alexa (Rachel), Steve, and Elizabeth; and his great-grandchildren Isabella, Adrian, and Saulo. He is also survived by his sisters Delia and Adelaida, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward his memory. Don Luis was preceded in death by his son, Luis Alberto Jr.; his parents, Ramiro and Salvadora; and his brothers and sisters.
Blessed with a joyful spirit and a love for life, Don Luis enjoyed fishing, lively games of poker, and card games such as “Desmoche” and “Pedro”. He loved to recite poetry and was famous for performing “Asino Estabilis Mortis,” along with his many “chistes” and his well-known “chiles en chino,” all of which brought smiles - and often laughter - to those around him. His storytelling, humor, and animated personality made every gathering brighter. He was also a passionate sports fan, especially of the Houston Astros, the New Orleans Saints, and the Nicaraguan baseball league, which he followed with enthusiasm and joy.
During his career, he served as General Manager of Texaco in Puerto Cabezas for over 20 years, where he was respected for his leadership and work ethic. Later, he retired from East Jefferson Hospital in Kenner, Louisiana, where he received numerous accolades for his dedication and outstanding service.
Above all, Don Luis was kind, generous, and full of life. He found his greatest joy in being surrounded by family, loved ones, sharing stories, laughter, poetry, and wisdom gathered over more than nine decades. His legacy of love, resilience, humor, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Don Luis will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A Gathering of Family & Friends will be held at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, Chapel , 4841 39th St, Port Arthur, Texas 77642, on March 19, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with the Holy Rosary at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, Chapel , 4841 39th St, Port Arthur, Texas 77642, on March 19, 2026, at 5:30 pm.
A Catholic Funeral Mass to Celebrate the Life of Luis will be held at St Joseph Catholic Church, 4600 Proctor St, Port Arthur, Texas 77642, on March 20, 2026, at 11:00 am.
Final resting place will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3900 Twin City Highway, Groves.
Don Luis Alberto Mora, conocido cariñosamente como “Don Luis” falleció a la edad de 93 años. Nacido en Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, fue un hombre profundamente querido por todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerlo, recordado por su calidez, su sentido del humor y su inquebrantable amor por su familia. No solo fue un esposo, padre y abuelo ejemplar, sino también el tío favorito de todos, un papel que desempeñó con alegría, generosidad y un cariño sin límites.
Le sobreviven su amada esposa de 72 años, Miriam; su hija Perla (Hector); sus nietos Luis Alberto, Adrian, Kayla, Alexa (Rachel), Steve y Elizabeth; y sus bisnietos Isabella, Adrian y Saulo. También le sobreviven sus hermanas Delia y Adelaida, así como numerosos sobrinos y sobrinas que continuarán honrando su memoria. Don Luis fue precedido en la muerte por su hijo Luis Alberto Jr.; sus padres Ramiro y Salvadora; y sus hermanos y hermanas.
Dotado de un espíritu alegre y un gran amor por la vida, Don Luis disfrutaba de la pesca, de animadas partidas de póker y de juegos de naipes como Desmoche y Pedro. Le encantaba recitar poesía y era famoso por interpretar “Asino Estabilis Mortis”, junto con sus muchos chistes y sus conocidos “chiles en chino”, los cuales siempre provocaban sonrisas — y muchas veces carcajadas — entre quienes lo rodeaban. Su talento para contar historias, su humor y su personalidad tan expresiva iluminaban cualquier reunión. También fue un gran aficionado a los deportes, especialmente seguidor de los Houston Astros, los New Orleans Saints y de la liga de béisbol de Nicaragua, cuyos juegos disfrutaba con entusiasmo.
Durante su carrera, se desempeñó como Gerente General de la Texaco en Puerto Cabezas por más de 20 años, donde fue respetado por su liderazgo y ética de trabajo. Posteriormente, se jubiló del Hospital East Jefferson en Kenner, Louisiana, donde recibió numerosos reconocimientos por su dedicación y excelente servicio.
Por encima de todo, Don Luis fue un hombre bondadoso, generoso y lleno de vida. Su mayor felicidad era estar rodeado de sus seres queridos, familia, amigos, compartiendo historias, risas, poesía y la sabiduría acumulada a lo largo de más de nueve décadas. Su legado de amor, fortaleza, humor y entrega vivirá para siempre en el corazón de todos los que lo conocieron.
Don Luis será profundamente extrañado y recordado por siempre.
