

Thomas was born on April 29, 1929, in Port Arthur to Victoria Garza Martinez and Tomas Hernandez Martinez. He had lived in Port Neches for many years and was a retired accountant for Fina Refinery. Thomas was well known throughout the community for his kindness and sharing of information and mentored young people. He was a Golden Triangle F.C.U. board member and was a proud Texas A&M Graduate with a B.A. degree and Masters Degree; he was also a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
Thomas is survived by his brother, Pedro Martinez and wife Ida; nephews, Robert McClintock, John McClintock, Jr. and wife Maggie, Pete Martinez and wife Nadine, Thomas Martinez and wife Marlinda, David Martinez, Danny Martinez and wife Karen; nieces, Linda Haynes and husband Greg, Mary Lovato, Teresa Hayslette and husband Robert; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
A gathering of friends and family will take place from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2010, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur with a Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A Chapel Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur with Father T.R. Blanco officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.
In lieu of flowers “Memorial Contributions” can be made to the Lamar University Foundation at P.O. Box 11500, Beaumont, TX 77710 for the Modern Languages Competition at Lamar University in memory of Thomas Martinez or Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 3648 Stf. Sgt.
