Agnes attended & graduated from Girls High School in Brooklyn, NY and attended City College of New York. She worked for Con Edison, starting as an entry level employee and for almost 30 years of service, she retired as an office manager. Agnes was a fashion-conscious shopper who sewed, crocheted, and knitted clothing. She was also a classical pianist and loved jazz & Caribbean music. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making dishes for her family & friends.
In July 1945 at the age of 20 she married Louis R. Laing. After Louis’ departure, Agnes and her family raised her daughter Kelcy and son Alex in Brooklyn & Queens, NY. In 1988 she married Lloyd Nicholson after they both retired and relocated to Port St Lucie, FL. Agnes and Lloyd enjoyed their retirement years by traveling and entertaining often.
Agnes was predeceased by her parents George and Emily, her husband Lloyd, siblings Clifford and Eric Findlay and years later by her adult son Alex. Through her losses, she moved through life with grace and fearlessness. In her lifetime she imparted many teachings about the importance of being independent and resilient. Agnes lived life on her own terms. She was a no nonsense, funny, and loyal person who loved her family dearly. It was her fierceness that made her strong, and a phenomenal woman. She is survived by her daughter Kelcy (Daniel) Hardrick, 4 grandchildren; Clifford (Lakysha) Laing, Keli Laing, Alexis Laing, and Bryan Laing, 4 great grandchildren; Alysha & Khalil Laing and Savannah & Julius Bayard, daughters-in-law; Dianne Laing and Michelle Williams-Laing, a nephew Phillip Findlay and a host of relatives and friends from Atlanta, New Jersey, New York, and Florida.
The family thanks her dedicated primary caretakers Aisha, along with Arlene, Kacie, and Karen from Treasure Coast Hospice. Also, thank you to Lenora, Karen and Tena who made suggestions, was there for the family and offered care for Agnes when needed. They became like family and friends due to their care and concern.
We will always remember Agnes because no one can replace the love we have for her in our hearts.
