

ALVIN (AL) GENE VON MINDEN, born Aug 5, 1932 in Manhattan, NY, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, William G. & Christine, brother, William E. Von Minden, sister, Emily Schreiber and son Steven Lee. As a youngster Al resided in College Point, NY and moved to Westchester county attending Mamaroneck High School, graduating in 1950; then worked for the NY Stock Exchange until joining the US Marine Corp, serving from 1952-56 during which time while stationed in Opa Locka, Miami, FL he met and married Frances (Fran) Rosenthal of Miami Beach and together they produced 5 children, 3 boys, Richard Scott, Steven Lee and James Bradley and 2 daughters, Vicki Lynn and Cheryl Anne Fraser, resulting in 8 grandchildren, Connor, Cara, Casey, Kiel, Faith, Colton, Chase and Bradley, all Florida residents. After serving in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, he worked for N.Y. Telephone & Bell South totaling 42 years with “Ma Bell”. Al and Fran resided in Mamaroneck, NY and Ft. Lauderdale, FL, mainly Lauderdale Lakes where Al was very active with the Lauderdale Lakes Jaycees and sports, playing softball, coaching softball, basketball and football, including his wife Fran and the 5 children. He also played travel softball with the Florida Half Century League after moving to Lakes at Tradition in 2003, continued playing at the Spanish Lakes field. He loved riding his bike, playing chess, shooting pool, working out and rooting for the Miami Dolphins and Florida Marlins. He will always be lovingly remembered by those he knew for his fun loving personality and great sense of humor.

A gathering of friends will be Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 9:30AM - 10:30AM at the Aycock Funeral Home, 505 S. Federal Highway, Stuart, FL, with a graveside service following at Fernhill Memorial Gardens, Stuart, FL at 11:00AM
