Betty Jane Allen

Betty was born on April 21, 1932 in Ballston Spa, NY and was the daughter of the late Philip and Laura (Ruggles) Dorey. She married Douglas A. Allen in October, 1951 whom she remained in loving union with until his death in October 1997. Several years after his death, she left Ballston Spa to live with her daughter in Florida although she always considered Ballston Spa her home.

She worked secularly early in life, but most of her life was devoted to being a mother and raising a family. She could have sold the pies she baked because they were so good. Friends and family who stopped by would often ask: ‘do you have any warm apple pie?’ In July 1969, she was baptized along with her husband, Doug, as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Perhaps because Doug was a local businessman, or for reasons unknown, that event was soon published in the Ballston Journal dated October 2, 1969 along with their picture. They regularly exercised their Christian faith in God and freely shared what they learned about Bible truths with others.

Betty is survived by; son, Douglas (Irene) Allen Jr. of Voorheesville, NY; daughter, Robin (Jim) McGinn of Port St. Lucie, FL; sisters, Eleanor Fitzgerald and Laura Mitchell, both of Ballston Spa, NY; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters; Julia Clause and Geraldine Bentley; brothers, Philp Dorey, Edward Dorey, and William Dorey.

Burial will be in Powell Wiswall Cemetery in Ballston Spa, NY.
