

Jane was born in Eatontown, New Jersey to the late Charles and Macey Lavene. Jane was raised in New Jersey before moving to Stuart, Florida after graduating high school with her parents. After meeting and marrying her husband, the late Major Eugene R. Burkett, she spent a lot of time travelling with the military. She has been a resident of Port St. Lucie since 2004, having moved from Palm City, Florida and previously from Tallahassee, Florida. From 1963-1992 Jane and her family lived in Homestead, Florida. She also resided in Japan, Germany, Ohio, Texas, and Massachusetts. Jane took great care of her family and stayed at home to raise her family for many years. She was a homebody and cherished the time caring for her family. She did work as her children grew older for the admitting office for Baptist Hospital of Miami. Jane was active in Redland United Methodist Church in Homestead. She was a Youth Counselor for Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) and affiliated with The Methodist Women’s Organization. Jane enjoyed travelling, painting, and reading, until she was no longer able to do so. Jane was an artist and was a member of Mockingbird Chapter of American Toll Painters.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Major Eugene R. Burkett; son, Charles Burkett; brothers, George, Clarence, John, and Charles Levene; sister,
Helena Ausley; and grandson, Marshall Jacobs.
Survivors include her daughter, Judith Jacobs, of Port St. Lucie; son, Eugene H. Burkett (Anna), of Felton, California; grandchildren, Mitchell Jacobs, David Burkett, Justin Burkett, Erik Burkett, and Catherine Schneider; and great grandchildren, Alexandra Jane, Benjamin, James, and Emory Burkett.
A graveside service will take place on Thursday , January 5, 2017 at 10 am at Fernhill Memorial Garden in Stuart, Florida with Pastor Rad Orlandi officiating.
