Jane, 96, was born on August 7, 1924 in New York. She lost both parents as a young child, and was raised by the sisters at Mount Loretta Catholic Orphanage. It is there that she met her beloved husband, Louis P. Merlano who preceded her in death. Jane and Lou were married in 1946 at the Church of Notre Dame, in New York City.
Jane, a loving mother of nine children had a special gift to make everyone feel very special. Jane’s love for her family was paramount to her and Jane devoted her life to them.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, watching old movies, and travelling. Jane and Lou travelled the world. Vienna with its beautiful music and the lovely waltz captured her heart. We all remember taking a graceful spin around the kitchen or living room with her as she taught us to waltz, jitterbug, and foxtrot.
Jane was an avid card player. It brought her great pleasure to rule the table with generations of children, grandchildren, family and friends. Five Crowns was one of her favorite games. She loved to say “The Game isn’t Over ‘Til the Kings Go Wild!” as she won game after game!
Every night, Jane prayed for all of her loved ones. She laughed that many nights she fell asleep before she was finished because there were so many special people in her life. Now she walks amongst the Angels. She will be missed.
She is survived by her children: Teresa Longar, Louis Merlano, Robert and Debbie Merlano, James Merlano, Kathryn and David Wheeler, Anthony Merlano, Raymond and Janelle Merlano, Maria and Patrick West and Philip Merlano. Her grandchildren: Heather and Jeff Barber, Jenny and Chris McPhillips, Fred and Amy Longar, Timothy Longar, Raighne and Sherry Delaney, Anna Merlano, Michael Merlano, Lauren and Mateo Stetancic, Robert Merlano, Jacqueline Johnson, Thomas and Amber Wheeler, Michael Wheeler, Charles and Noreen Wheeler, David and Allison Wheeler, Andrew Wheeler, Anthony and Katie Merlano, Tiffany Merlano, Richard and Sarah Merlano, Matthew Merlano, Nathan Merlano, Rob Stein, Theresa Stein, Christina Stein, Marissa Merlano and Isabella Merlano. Jane is also survived by twenty eight great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
Jane Merlano’s Memorial Service will be held at Holy Family Church, 2330 SE Mariposa Avenue, Port St. Lucie, FL on February 20th at 11:00 a.m.
