

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, he was a resident of Port St. Lucie since 1987, moving from Loudonville, NY.
In Portugal, he and his wife operated a successful dental business and he was also the European Representative for CMP Industries of Albany, NY. In 1969 he and his family migrated to the United States, upon his appointed as CMP’s Technical Director. He retired as Vice President in 1987 but continued on as a consultant until 1997.
John’s business knowledge and expertise were recognized when he was appointed member of the New York Export Council by then United States Secretary of State Malcolm Baldridge (1983-1985). While at CMP Industries, he was responsible for launching a number of new product lines and all exports. He was published in the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry (1984). He was also responsible for training all dental lab personnel on all US Military bases (domestic and abroad). Along with his two sons, John and Mario, he started an Import/Export Company in Latham, NY called Orbitex. John was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Port St. Lucie; a past member of the Port Saint Lucie Yacht Club and Port St Lucie Elks, and member of the Portuguese American Cultural Club of Port St. Lucie, FL. He loved to travel, meeting people from different cultures, religions and backgrounds. He was fluent in five languages.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Natalia Monteiro of Port St. Lucie, FL; his three children, Maria Monteiro-Childe (Will), of Port St Lucie, FL, John Monteiro (Susan), of Loudonville, NY and Mario Monteiro of Port St Lucie, FL; four grandchildren, Bryan Childe, Janell Dessingue (Scott), Kris Monteiro, Eric Monteiro; and one great-grandchild Connor Dessingue. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family.
John was kind, had a great heart and friendly smile. He touched many people, and loved spending time with family and friends.
Friends and family may gather Wednesday, September 15, 2010 from 5:30-6:00 PM at the Aycock Funeral Home Chapel in Port St. Lucie, followed by a Memorial Service at 6:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
