

Port St. Lucie, FL – Percy “Buddy” White, 66, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 17, 1947 in Skowhegan, Maine to the late Percy J. and Eva (Berry) White. Buddy grew up in Madison, Maine and graduated from Madison High School with the class of 1965 where he was also a standout football player. He went on to excel as an athlete by playing four years of football as a starter at William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He is a member of the William Penn Football Hall of Fame. He graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education.
He taught school for 20 years in Maine, starting his teaching career in the Rockland School District and then moving on to teach History for many years at Madison Jr. High School. He also coached football and basketball. After moving to Port St. Lucie, Florida in 1990, he married his wife, Diane (Hebert) White on July 4, 1990. He taught 19 more years for the St. Lucie County School System before retiring in 2008. During his retirement he worked for the PGA Country Club and Treasure Coast High School as a security guard. He truly loved all of his “school families” and they thought very highly of him. Mr. White, or Coach White as his Madison students called him, touched and mentored thousands of students. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Buddy also enjoyed travelling with his wife, Diane, cruising to the islands and visiting family and friends in Maine. He loved football and was a sport’s enthusiast, enjoying hunting, fishing, and golf. He especially treasured his annual trips with friends, where they traveled to Canada to fish, to professional football games to watch the Raiders play, and out west to hunt, four wheel, and sight see.
He is survived by his wife, Diane, of 22 years; his children, Suzanne White of St. George, Utah, Kelly Whalen and her husband, Mike of Madison, Maine, Kristy Osburn and her husband, Matt of Tequesta, Florida, and Brian Hendsbee of Portland, Maine; six grandchildren, Shauni Nason, Sierra Nason, Erin Whalen, Sean Whalen, Chloe Osburn, and Crew Osburn; one sister, Simone Dickey and her husband, Theodore of Waterville, Maine; nephews, Tommy Dickey, Timothy Dickey and Todd Dickey; and his life-long “AMIGOS”, Robert Hagopian and George Ferris.
A funeral service will be held at St. Lucie Catholic Church, 280 SW Prima Vista, Port St. Lucie, Florida 34983; Satruday, February 9, 2013, 9:30AM Burial will be in the Spring, at the St. Sebastian Catholic Cemetery in Madison, Maine. Arrangements are being made by Aycock Funeral Home.
