(October 28, 1938, to May 22, 2025)
Peter George “Stretch” Slaynasky passed away at Treasure Coast Hospice at the age of 86.
Peter was born in Passaic, New Jersey, the son of Peter and Stella (née Janeczko), and lived in nearby Wallington. He graduated from Wallington High School in 1956, where he was the leading scorer on the basketball team and his hook shot earned the name “The Slaynasky Special.” Peter was inducted into the Wallington High School Athletic and Academic Hall of Fame in 1997 and 2002, respectively. Continuing his education at Fairleigh Dickinson University, he earned a basketball scholarship as well as a B.S. in Business Management.
In 1960, Peter married Elaine Ann Slaynasky (née Kudlacik), whom he met in high school. They welcomed two daughters while living in New Jersey, Jillanne and Janet, and then ventured to the states of Minnesota, Georgia, Tennessee, California, and Ohio. Eventually, Peter and Elaine retired to Florida after Peter had a very successful career in the jewelry industry. The couple was married for 64 years.
Peter was an avid tennis player, lover of music and theatre, sports enthusiast, and world traveler. If you did not see Peter on the tennis court or at a tournament, you might find him attending a concert or Broadway show, cheering on the Yankees or Giants, or checking in for his next flight or cruise.
Peter is survived by his wife Elaine; children, Jillanne Hunt (David) and Janet Slaynasky Ottenweller; his grandchildren, Stephen Hunt, Angela Ko (Hee Suk), Jen Salseg (Josh), Jeffrey Hunt (Kat Kekel), Brian Hunt, and Antonio Hunt; and his five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Vivian Desbiens.
A funeral service will not be held, and the family will honor Peter’s life with a private celebration.
