1960 - 2024
Scott Davis’ life as an entrepreneur began the day after he turned 16 when he bought a used 1972 Ford F-150 with money he had already saved. While his brothers were watching reruns of The Three Stooges, Scott spent hours after school chopping wood and making deliveries to customers he found on his own. Other jobs Scott would have included vending machine service technician and short order cook at the Moonraker Restaurant. Unparalleled devotion to the completion of tasks was the common thread in all Scott’s pursuits. Scott would often say his mood was the best when he was immersed in his work; the more physically demanding, the better.
In his formative years, the family game was Monopoly and Scott was, without question, the GOAT. If we played once or twice a week throughout the 1970s, then Scott’s record against all comers must have been about 775-4. Our Mom taught us the game and she was a formidable opponent, however, soon after learning the rudiments, even she was no match for the cunning Scott Davis. Hoping to increase the chance to compete, some employed the “short game” in which property deeds are dealt like a card game. Shorter game, same result. Scott was unstoppable. In a typical game, Scott would have all our money and all the bank’s money, too.
Early on in Pittsburgh, Scott shared a room with his brother, Tim, but that didn’t last long. Somehow, Scott was granted permission to buy the very first waterbed ever sold at retail. As was his nature, Scott went large, getting a bed just slightly smaller than the room itself. The result: No room for Tim! A short while later, the room was painted dark brown and outfitted with black lighting, psychedelic posters and a stereo constantly blasting out Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. Of course, Scott’s favorite track was Money. One day, Scott showed up at home with his new quadraphonic headphones: a steal at $99.00, about $585.00 in today’s money. Our parents reasoned that for someone with only two ears, quad headphones were overkill and redundant, but Scott forged ahead, undaunted with his innovative purchase.
Scott Gerard Davis was born Oct 26, 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio the second of four children of Loretta and Kenneth Cummings. In 1968, Loretta and the children moved to Monroeville, PA, where she met and married Virgil Davis. Soon after he finished high school, Scott relocated to Houston where he established a swimming pool excavation business. During a 40-year span, Scott’s “Backyard Paradise” expanded to include everything from design, construction and ongoing maintenance, building hundreds of architectural pools across southeast Texas. Along the way, Scott acquired real estate suitable for industrial development. With his lifetime friend, Odie Kennedy, the pair built a property rental business that thrives today.
Scott loved the beach and in 2019 he bought a home in Port St. Lucie, Florida. As he turned over the management of his businesses to others, Scott found more time to enjoy his newfound love, Karen Hennings. Together, Karen and Scott enjoyed their children and grandchildren, relaxed in Florida and traveled extensively, making new memories.
Due to complications of congestive heart failure, Scott passed away unexpectedly on February 18 and is survived by his brothers, Gregory and Timothy, sister, Karen, half-brother, Gary and his children, Denise, Daniel and Chrisopher, three granddaughters, two nieces and a nephew. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Loretta and Virgil Davis and Kenneth Cummings.
