

Scarborough, ME – Edward Joseph (Ted) Twomey of Freeport and formerly of So. Portland, and West Hartford, CT, died on Friday, April 29, 2011, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a brief illness. He was the husband of Jacqueline (White) Twomey.
He was born on March 7, 1929 in Portland, ME the only son of Edward R. & Emma T. (Marchi) Twomey, and grew up in So. Portland. He attended school in So. Portland and graduated 1st in his class from Cheverus High School in 1947. He then graduated from RPI with an Aeronautical Engineering Degree and was inducted into Tau Beta Pi National Honorary Aeronautical Society, Gamma Alpha Rho chapter. From there he went on to graduate from MIT with an Advanced Aeronautical Engineering Degree. Later he obtained an MBA from the University of Connecticut.
In 1958 he married Jacqueline White. They have celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Ted started his career at Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corp. in Bethpage, NY. He then moved to Connecticut and worked for Sikorsky Aircraft. He went on to do aeronautical engineering for United Technologies Research Center, and then moved to Pratt & Whitney Aircraft to do forecasting, both in East Hartford. In 1990 they retired to Freeport, ME.
Ted loved computers. He was using them long before desktops were available and continued to read about what was new, and used them almost to the end. He and his wife enjoyed alpine skiing and taught it in western Massachusetts. They both enjoyed riding bicycles, playing tennis, and ballroom dancing. He also loved Big Band and Traditional Jazz music. He and his wife often traveled to live traditional jazz concerts.
Besides his wife, Ted leaves his two sons Brian C. Twomey and his wife Davida of Long Island, NY, and Alan K. Twomey and his wife Kimberly of Storrs, CT. He also leaves his two granddaughters Rachel and Ava Twomey of Long Island, NY, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday May 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Jude’s Church, 134 Main St., Freeport, ME.
