

She was born on September 21, 1945 in Dover-Foxcroft, ME a daughter of the late Laurie H. Vainio and Madeline Pearl (Sinclair) Vainio of Haverhill, MA. Kathryn attended Piscataquis Community High School and later received her GED. She then went on to obtain her CNA certification. She was a loving caregiver to many elderly people.
Kathy was a very generous, loving and giving person and always tried to help those in need. She loved gardening and picking blueberries at the family farm in Abbot, ME. She was lifelong member of Alcoholics Anonymous and started the first AA program in Guilford, ME. She loved playing games with family and friends, especially Scrabble and Tin Can Alley.
Kathy, a devoted mother, leaves her three children Kristine (Towne) Leahy and her husband Peter of Southington, CT, Laurie (Towne) Ford and her husband Bob of Wells, ME and Matthew Storer and his partner Melissa Thurlow of Bradford, ME, as well as her six grandchildren Andrew, Timothy, Jake, Keegan, Quentin and Mia and her “grand dog” Polo. She also leaves her nine brothers and sisters; Laurie Lee Vainio and his wife Simone, Paul Vainio and his wife Louise, Galen Vainio and his wife Donna, Carl Vainio and his friend Stephanie, Lillian Fundeklian and her husband Arthur, Rita Reckards, Linda Champion and her husband Don, Joline Wilson and her husband Harold and Bobby Vainio and his wife Cindy, as well as twenty three nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Trudy Vainio, her brother-in-law Steve Reckards and niece Julie Vainio.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on March 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Guilford Methodist Church, 3 School Street, Guilford, ME.
