Lucille May (Powers) Dennison, 96, of Falmouth, Maine, passed on to our Lord on December 24, 2021. She was born in Durham, Maine on July 28, 1925, to Catherine Helen (Borcsak) and Harry Allen Powers. Lucille was a 1943 Freeport (Maine) High School graduate. She married Alvin C. Dennison, a 6th generation descendent of David Dennison of Freeport, on May 19, 1945, at the Freeport First Parish Church Congregational.
Lucille was a stay-at-home mother to her five children during their school years, and later held many secretarial positions of employment, from L.L.Bean in Freeport to Florida, Maryland, and back to Maine where she also worked as a home health care assistant. In 1982, Lucille graduated from St. Petersburg (Florida) Vocational Technical Institute. She completed Defense Department technology training in 1986, and medical administrative transcription training in 1991. Lucille received many certificates of accomplishment, commendations, and recommendations, even from State of Maine House Representative Nancy Clark, as well as a secret clearance from the Department of Defense – but that's a secret.
Lucille was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, alongside her husband who belonged to the American Legion, having served in the Navy during WWII. Lucille was also a member of the Red Hat Society and Freeport Historical Society, as well as the Freeport First Parish Church Congregational. Later, she became a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Portland, Maine, where she served as a vestry member and in the Ladies Guild.
Lucille enjoyed raising her five children, always driving them everywhere they needed to be, especially to the beach and the drive-in movies in her convertible. She was an excellent driver, even to the age of 95, and was known as "the little old lady from Pasadena." Lucille enjoyed life, loved music and dancing, and often entertained many friends in her home, especially after the boys' basketball games. She was an excellent cook with many different recipes to feed her family of three boys and two girls, and often the neighborhood kids who were always visiting. She always prepared a Sunday family dinner. Lucille kept up on what her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were doing and enjoyed sending them cards and gifts for Christmas and birthdays. She loved to reminisce and tell stories of her youth and the "good old days." Lucille excelled in basketball and softball in high school, and enjoyed swimming, boating, golf, bowling, going to camp, her pets, knitting, and sewing. She was always up on current events and enjoyed history, especially family genealogy, and even some spirited political discussions.
Lucille was predeceased by her parents Harry and Catherine Powers, and her brothers Albert and Allan Powers, as well as her son-in-law Richard Davis. She is survived by her five children, Catherine L. and her husband Josef Hebert of Federal Way, WA; Alvin C., Jr. and his wife Kristin of Durham, ME; John S. and his wife Kathleen of Hernando, FL; William P. and his wife Jane of Hernando, FL; and, June A. Davis of Freeport, ME; her eight grandchildren, Sonya (Hebert) and her husband Jon Schwartz, of Dallas, TX; Andrea (Hebert) and her husband Duncan Simpson of Saverna Park, MD; Rebecca (Dennison) and her husband Michael Walsh of Andover, NH; Raina (Dennison) and her husband David Maxwell of Yarmouth, ME; Maura (Dennison) and her husband Scott Stouffer of Richfield, OH; Patrick Dennison and his wife Britney of Saco, ME; Lucas Dennison and his fiancée Darcy Wilkins of Durham, ME; and, Elizabeth Dennison of Bradenton, FL; and, her ten great-grandchildren, Violet and Gigi Schwartz, Isla and Finlay Simpson, Reilly and Ronan Walsh, Ella and Adam Maxwell, Gavin Stouffer, and Liam Dennison.
A graveside service and interment will be held at Burr Cemetery, 56 Durham Rd., Freeport, ME, on May 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon at the First Parish Congregational Church, 422 Hallowell Rd, Pownal, ME. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Midcoast Humane Society, 30 Range Rd., Brunswick, ME 04011.
