Born in Charleston, WV, she graduated with a degree in teacher education from Wheelock College, Boston. As a student, she met Gordon Glover, a B-17 Army Air Force pilot, on a blind date. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Their partnership took them from Boston to Tennessee, to New York and Virginia and New Hampshire. They spent several years in Gorham, ME, before relocating to Mountain Lakes, NJ. Each summer, the family returned to their South Freeport cottage overlooking Casco Bay.
Mrs. Glover was active in the Episcopal Church on local and national levels, serving as chairman of the United Thanks Offering. She stayed politically engaged through the League of Women Voters, and spent many years working at the Mountain Lakes Library.
The Glovers retired to their South Freeport home more than two decades ago. During those years, Mrs. Glover volunteered as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), helping and advocating for children in crisis.
Perhaps her greatest passion was for art. An accomplished knitter and superb crewel embroiderer, she also loved the painting of tin boxes and chests and served as avid member and president of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration (HSEAD).
She leaves her husband, Gordon; daughters Susan Lynn Glover of Boston; Margaret Christina Douglas (Gerard) of Saint Petersburg, FL; Barbara Elizabeth Shane (John) of Long Beach, CA; and son William Lewis Glover (Mary Lynn). She loved her eight grandchildren: Alison Douglas, Chloe Douglas Brehm, Charles and Riley Shane, Reed Godlewski; Margaret, Sara and Ginny Glover; and a new great-granddaughter, Sage Winslow Brehm.
With great thanks to the loving caretakers and friends at Bay Square, Yarmouth, and the nursing staff at Maine Medical. Services will be arranged privately.
