Rochester, NH – Madeline “Maddie” Mailhot, a beloved and long-time resident of the Rochester area, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, at Rochester Manor, where she had resided for the past seven years. She was 99 years old.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1926, Maddie was the daughter of Alice Farrell and Thomas Novinski. Following her father's early passing, she was lovingly adopted and raised by Alice and William Hawkins. She was predeceased by her siblings, Grace Parrish, William Hawkins Jr., and James Hawkins.
Maddie was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She spent many years working at General Electric and at Hubbard Shoe, where she was known as a dedicated and hardworking employee.
Affectionately known for her warmth and vibrant spirit, Maddie was a gifted cook—her red velvet cake held a special place in the hearts of her family. She enjoyed movies, game shows (especially Jeopardy!), and the music of Johnny Cash. Maddie was an exceptional bowler and a true animal lover, especially fond of cats. She took great pride in her garden and loved raising animals.
She was a CB radio operator known by her handle, “Triple MMM,” and actively gave back to her community through her work in the Foster Grandparent Program, where she found joy in supporting and caring for children.
Maddie is survived by her loving children: daughter Carol Marcotte and sons Leo Paul Mailhot and Tom Mailhot. She was a proud Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great Grandmother, always cherishing her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Her life was one marked by kindness, dedication, and a deep love for family and community. Maddie will be remembered for her compassionate heart, her strength of spirit, and the deep love she shared with all who knew her.

Proverbs 31:25–31 (NIV)
She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
