
South Portland, ME -- Mary Elizabeth (Doonan) Rainey, born February 4, 1931 in Baltimore Maryland, formerly of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and Lewes, Delaware, passed away peacefully, August 27, 2014 while residing in Maine.
Elizabeth, or Bets, was the daughter of the late Michael Joseph and Mary Regina Ford Doonan. She is survived by her older brother Michael Joseph Doonan Jr of Maryland, and younger brothers, Edward Francis and wife Lynn, and Thomas Anthony and wife Joyce Doonan of Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her older sister, Mary Rose Doonan.
Elizabeth enjoyed an active life, basketball in school, bowling duck pins in the 50’s & 60’s & ten pins throughout most of her life, raising her family & dancing with hubbie Chuck, swimming and bbq’s at their backyard pool, golfing, going to the casino and playing bingo with her friends, gathering everyone at their home in Bethlehem and crab feasts and going to the beach near her home in Lewes, shared by her daughter Linda & grandchildren, Lynsey & Matthew. Mom loved all of her family and visiting her grandchildren, Chad and Darah, in Texas and Arizona, brought her great joy, also.
Bobbie, was predeceased in February 1998 by her beloved husband Charles Edward. She is survived by their 4 children, Charles Edward Jr. and wife Debbie of California, Laura Regina Rainey and Cindy Gray of Maine, Thomas Michael and wife Barbara of Delaware, and Linda Carol and husband David Myers of Pennsylvania. Elizabeth’s 4 grandchildren, Chad & wife Jessica Rainey of Arizona, Darah Rainey of California, and Lynsey Graeff and Matthew Myers of Pennsylvania, remember well, her kind spirit and big smile.
Aunt Betts or Bobbie, to her nieces and nephews, will be missed and fondly remembered.
Mom, Grammy & Gige, you shall remain forever young in our hearts and we are deeply saddened.
A private memorial service will be held Friday September 5th, followed by a celebration of her life.
In lieu of flowers, Elizabeth’s family is requesting that memorial donations be made to BayView Resident Fund Wish List, South Portland Nursing Home, 42 Anthoine St., So. Portland ME 04106, so the residents may continue to experience the compassionate work from the staff of angels.
