Nelson was born in Westbrook, ME a son of the late Carlene V. (Edwards) Rhinehart and Wayne N. Collins of Yarmouth.
Nelson recently moved back to Maine, living with his brother and his wife in Auburn, after spending the past 20 years in Florida. He enjoyed working with his hands and worked as a self-employed tile and marble contractor.
He enjoyed most sports, however his favorite was NASCAR.
Besides his father he is survived by his step mother Sheila Collins also of Yarmouth and his son Nelson D. Collins Jr. of Florida. He also leaves his brother Dwayne Collins and his wife Tina of Auburn and his twin sister Nada Russell of Loveland, CO. He was also the brother of the late Teresa Campbell.
Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Yarmouth will be private.
