Patricia was born January 28, 1937 in Portland, Maine, to George Ernest Merrill and Daisy (Robinson) Merrill.
She was educated at South Portland schools where she played softball and basketball. Friends called her “Peppermint Patty” because she loved eating Canada Mints. In 1954 Patty married Gordon H. Casey, also of South Portland. They had two boys; Gordon Casey Jr., and 11 months later, George Casey.
Later in life, Pat married Frank Edward Landry. They had one daughter, Melissa Anne Landry.
At the tender age of 10 Patty sang her first live radio soprano solo (The Lord’s Prayer) with the Methodist Church choir. She had a beautiful singing voice. As an adult she sang occasional duets on live radio with Frank Landry.
Pat was also a wonderful dancer. She was once approached by a lady with a handicapped leg. Upon request, she taught the lady and her companion how to slow waltz. That couple later married and they went dancing every Friday.
Patricia was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the V.F.W. #832 (South Portland) and she often helped alongside her mother Daisy who was the president of the Ladies Auxiliary. In the late 1950’s Patty was chosen to be the first Mrs. V.F.W. and she proudly wore her sash while riding through South Portland on a Memorial Day parade float.
Pat worked at a 5&10 store. She also worked her way up to head waitress at the Log Cabin Restaurant in Scarborough, where she had the pleasure of waiting upon celebrities such as Bette Davis, Gary Merrill and Phyllis Thaxter. Pat also worked as a bartender at Boon’s at Crescent Beach. She later worked at Gould Academy in Bethel, at The Hungry Hollow in West Paris and as a head housekeeper at the Portland Jetport until her retirement.
Pat was a 1st grade Sunday School Teacher and she often volunteered at school. She received awards for her service. She also won trophies for bowling. Besides singing and dancing, she also loved to cook, sew, draw, create Tole paintings and write poetry. One of her poems was chosen to be made into a country song.
Patricia was preceded in death by George and Daisy Merrill, Gordon Casey Sr., Frank Landry and her dearest love Albert Intrieri.
Patricia is survived by her children Gordon Casey and his wife Barbara of South Portland, George Casey and his wife Ethel of Buxton and Melissa Hollis and her husband Richard of Winthrop, her five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, her brother Robert Merrill and her nieces & nephews.
