

He was born on September 23, 1957 in Portland, ME a son of the late Richard A. & Helen (Jewitt) Childs. He attended schools in Portland and graduated from Deering High School.
Richard worked for Buxton Oil for many years as an Oil Burner Technician before retiring, and was an active member in the American Legion, the Moose Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He enjoyed karaoke as well as tending to his vegetable garden. Richard was also an animal lover and had a special place in his heart for his cat, Daisy Mae and his dogs Brutus and Blackie, who are now deceased.
He is survived by his two sons Richard S. Childs of Scarborough, Shawn M. Childs of Portland; his grandchildren Adrienne N. Childs of Scarborough, Eric S. Childs of Westbrook and Abigail E. Childs also of Westbrook. He also leaves a brother Steven Childs and his wife Joanna of Buxton, his sisters Vickie Cormier and her husband Gary of Yarmouth and Brenda Moody and her husband Steve of Windham, several nieces and nephews and his lifelong friend Ned Boxer of Sebago. He was also the brother of the late Terri A. Gower.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, February 20, 2015 from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Wilde Memorial Chapel in Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Ave., Portland. A graveside service will follow in the memorial garden section of Evergreen Cemetery, with Rev. Philip Shearman officiating.
