

Scarborough, ME – Shirley Jean (Scott) Slauenwhite, 72, of Portland, went to be with our Lord on Friday, March 1m 2013 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. She was the wife and soul mate of James H. Slauenwhite.
She was born in Bangor, ME on February 21, 1941, a beloved daughter of the late John D. & Bertha M. (Boulier) Scott. Her family moved to South Portland in 1942 where she attended the Red Bank Village School until moving to Portland in 1947. She finished her schooling in Portland, graduating from Portland High School.
She worked for a short while at the Cookie Jar in South Portland and Denny’s in Portland until becoming a home health care provider for Holy Innocents of Portland where she worked for many years.
Shirley was a wonderful cook and was well known for her lasagna, molasses cookies and especially her homemade biscuits, she would become known as the “biscuit lady” to those who knew her. Shirley loved having her family for Holiday get-together’s and would make sure she cooked each and every one of them their favorite desserts.
She enjoyed watching golf tournaments, the Boston Red Sox and her favorite soap opera, “Days of Our Lives”. She also used Facebook often; chatting with family and friends became a great way for her to keep connected. Her children and grandchildren, however, were the light of her life, she was so proud of each and every one of their accomplishments.
Besides her Husband of forty years, James, she is survived by two Daughters, Lori L. Greenleaf and her companion Larry Pepin and Melanie A. Greenleaf and her companion Charles Poulin both of Portland and a Son Michael J. Greenleaf also of Portland. She also leaves three Granddaughters Melissa Greenleaf, Jen Greenleaf and Sarah Martinez and her Husband Mario, two Grandsons Steven Tibbetts and Joseph Greenleaf all of Portland, as well as two Great Grandsons Logan and Aidan, a Brother Albert “Jack” L. Scott and his wife Viola of Windham a sister E. Louise Johnson and her Husband Oliver also of Windham, a Sister-in-Law Mary E. Scott also of Windham, several Nieces and Nephews and her cat Mimikins, whom she loved with all her heart. Shirley was also the mother of the late Debra Lynn, Jeffrey A. and John D. Greenleaf.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the medical staff at Mercy Hospital and the staff of the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, your care and support will never be forgotten.
A private memorial service was held on Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Wilde Memorial Chapel at Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Ave., Portland and was officiated by Pastor David Patterson.
Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
