

He was born on August 21, 1932 in Concord, NH a son of the late Theodore K. & Elnora (Weast) Rice Sr. He attended schools in Concord and graduated from Concord High School in 1948. He served his country in the US Army, serving with the military police.
Mr. Rice received further educated at Colby College and did his graduate work at Dartmouth, University of New Hampshire, and the University of Connecticut. He holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling as well as the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Counseling and was licensed for independent practice as a Certified Social Worker in Maine. Theodore was also a Registered Substance Abuse Counselor in Maine and was President/Owner of Counseling & Consultation Services.
Mr. Rice was affiliated with the University of Southern Maine where he taught courses in Business Communication, Group Process and Introduction to Communications. He also served as a consultant to business and public sector services agencies as well as private practitioner and trainer.
He was employed at York County Counseling from 1974 thru 1982 as the clinical director of the substance abuse program and spent four years as Regional Director. He served as Chairman of the Maine Board of Registration of Substance Abuse Counselors; he also served on several advisory boards and held faculty positions at the University of Southern Maine Graduate School, the University of New Hampshire and the University of Connecticut.
Theodore has also held other positions including work in Federal and State penitentiaries, clinical director of a JCAH accredited alcoholism program and training and consultation throughout New England.
He was a past director of the Southern NH Appalachian Mountain Club and was a member of Project Soar, Boy Scouts of America, and the Presidents Club Colby College.
He loved hiking, mountain climbing, kayaking, cross country skiing, biking, snowshoeing, the ocean, rock collecting, teaching the Great Books adult classes at USM.
Theodore was a kind, generous and warm hearted man and will be missed by many including his son Theodore K. Rice, III of Lantana, FL, his daughter Elizabeth Worth and her husband Robert of Bow, NH, his two grandchildren Kyle E. Worth of Merrimack, NH and Justin R. Worth of Storrs, CT. He also leaves a brother Roger L. Rice of Cohassett, MA and three nephews Roger, Paul and David Rice.
A celebration of life will be held this summer at date to be determined.
