Victor Harvey Landry, 65, of Smyrna, Maine died on September 14, 2021 at Central Maine Medical Center after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He leaves behind his beloved wife Donna Landry of seventeen years.
Victor was born in Lewiston, Maine to Harvey Landry and Gloria Nadeau on October 9, 1955. He attended Saint Dominic Academy in Auburn, ME and graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, becoming a reserve officer for the Lewiston Police Department. He devoted more than three decades to Bath Iron Works. During these years he found a great passion for custom woodworking and shared a successful business with his dear friend Gene Pratt in Wales. His lifetime of tinkering in the garage led him to friendship and employment with Perry Lilley at Lilley Farms in Smyrna as a skilled mechanic.
Victor spent many seasons perfecting the straight lines in his garden and occasionally over composting. He was known for fixing anything from plumbing to tractors, and only leaving the roof work for others. He shared his love for hunting with his boys, showing them his most cherished places in Maine. His children all share many wonderful memories of ice fishing and family trips to auctions. He enjoyed his time spent on Grand Manan Island with Donna’s family playing many games of washer toss. He brought his own grandchildren to the island and Christen fondly remembers metal detecting along the beaches. He enjoyed golfing throughout his life, especially with Donna, though few games were finished without the intentional destruction of at least one golf club.
Vic and his family have kept many pets that slowly worked their way into his stubborn heart. None did this as well as his dog, Wyatt, who he was happily kicked out of dog obedience classes with.
His family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for all the care and compassion shown to him during his care in Brewer, Maine at Lafayette Family Cancer Institute and finally at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine. Their compassion, humanity and understanding of his stubborn personality and sometimes peculiar needs, allowed him and his family respite and needed humor during a difficult time. Victor found sunshine, comfort, much needed time to vent and a few belly laughs as he quickly weasled his way into Alice’s heart during his time in the hospital.
Victor is survived by his wife Donna Landry of Smyrna, Maine; son Michael Landry, his partner Alice Berry and his children Cohen Landry and Kayla Caswell of Wales, Maine; daughter Sarah Landry and her two children Christen and Tre Landry, of Wilson, North Carolina; wife Donna’s two boys that Victor considered his own Scott and Jeff Leighton and their families of New Brunswick; her sister Brenda Cewell of Harvey, New Brunswick; her brother Wayne Green, of Grand Manan, New Brunswick; sister Patricia Landry of Hanover, Massachusetts; dear friend Kenny Slauenwhite of Island Falls, Maine who helped to keep the jokes flowing through even the hard days. Victor found God, friends and community with Peter and Joan Maine at Crystal Wesleyan Church.
Victor is predeceased and forever reunited with his dearly missed son Christopher Landry; Donna’s mother, Betty Green, whom he loved as his own; her brother Phillip Green; and his longtime friend JR.
His family will be planning a celebration of Victor’s life in central Maine later this fall.
