With deepest sadness, we announce that our beloved son, brother, family member, and friend, Alexander (Alex) Thad Hardy, age 21, passed away on Aug 11, 2019, at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo Utah, due to complications related to an auto accident.
Those who knew Alex, knew he was a great friend and had a contagious personality that brought love and joy to many. He will be sorely missed.
Alex was born in Cary, NC on October 31, 1997. He graduated from Sanderson High School in Raleigh, NC and was attending Utah Valley University in Orem, UT.
Alex had an extensive tool collection and his hobbies included fixing up old motorcycles and working on cars, sport shooting, and “four-wheeling” in his beloved red Jeep Wrangler. He enjoyed listening to music and had a wide pallet of favorite bands. Perhaps his greatest passion, was exploring the great outdoors. Alex was an Eagle Scout and he spent a lot of time camping and hiking.
Alex was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held several youth leadership positions during his teens, which culminated in him serving a 2-year full-time mission for The Church in the Salt Lake City West Mission from April 2017 until April 2019. During his mission, he touched the lives of many people in Salt Lake and was able to bring many families back to the gospel.
Alex gave a lot to help others in need. Even after his life ended, Alex was still helping others. He chose to be an organ donor, and was able to donate his heart, liver and both kidneys to four families in need. Just 1% of all designated organ donors are actually able to donate in the way Alex did.
Alex is survived by his mother, Shanna Bergman Hardy, his father David Hardy, is step-mother, Barre Blake Hardy, his brothers Anderson and Ayden Hardy, his half-brothers Tyler, Blake, and Cade Hardy, his maternal grandmother Ellen Bergman, his paternal grandfather Michael Hardy, and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Alex is predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Mary Martin Hardy, and his maternal grandfather, William Bergman. They are all together now waiting for the rest of our family to return to them.
Friends will be received at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 5060 Six Forks Rd. in Raleigh, NC on August 24th, viewing at 2:00 pm, with a service starting at 3:30 pm. The burial, at Raleigh Memorial Park on Glenwood Ave., will follow directly after the service.
Memorial contributions to The National Park Foundation (https://www.nationalparks.org/), or RoadPeace (http://www.roadpeace.org/), or The Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-Day Saints General Missionary Fund (https://www.ldsphilanthropies.org/missionary) in Alex’s name would be greatly appreciated.
