

Arnold Thomas Lawson, age 84, of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. Arnold was born in High Point, NC May 15, 1938 to Robert Obrian Lawson and Mary Elizabeth Robinson Lawson. He had two older brothers, D.C. and Billy June; and two sisters, Sally Louise, and Clara Geraldine.
Arnold attended Cloverdale Elementary, High Point Junior High, and High Point High School. He also attended High Point College, graduating in May 1959. Arnold was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity at High Point College. He worked through high school and college at Mann Drug in downtown High Point. Arnold enlisted in the US Marine Corps in May 1959 and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. on December 5, 1959. This began a Marine Corps career lasting until retirement on October 1, 1979.
Arnold married Sylvia Anne Parker on April 16, 1960, his proudest family moment paralleled with the births and achievements of his three children, Deborah Lynn, Tracy Leigh, and Robert Obrian Lawson.
Arnold served with the 3rd Marine Division in RVN. He was awarded the Naval Achievement Medal with combat, and a personal letter citation for valuable service from the Quartermaster General of the Marine Corps.
Arnold served as the president of the Sea Island Toastmasters Club in Parris Island, SC for over three years, where he completed many service projects during his tenure. He received a special citation from the Commanding General of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in July 1977 for conducting many organizational and management engineering studies. He also received a letter of commendation and appreciation upon retirement from Wake County Public Schools on January 1, 1999.
A visitation for Arnold will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. A funeral service will follow at 6pm. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144.
