Barbara was born in Landrum, South Carolina, on October 25, 1938, to James and Faye Watson. She was a graduate of East Carolina University, where she met her husband, Bill “Fatman” Flowers. Bill, who preceded her in death, shared a full and loving life with Barbara. Together they lived in Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia, before returning to Raleigh, North Carolina, the place they would forever call home.
She loved teaching kindergarten at Clarence Poe Elementary. After retiring, she found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Julie Foley (Charles), and Suzanne Flowers; and her four grandchildren, Katherine and Kevin Foley of Durham, NC, Davis Janolino of Jacksonville, Florida, and Madison Janolino (Adam) of Atlanta, GA.
A service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, located at 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609, on Friday, June 5, 2026, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. The family requests those attending wear bright colors to honor Barbara’s love of color and life.
Condolences may be left through Brown-Wynne Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Trinity Baptist Church or Transitions LifeCare in memory of Barbara Flowers.
