Betty Jane Hayne

Betty was married for 57 years to Leonard Fox Hayne, who predeceased her. She is survived by 5 sons; Robert and wife Susan of Longwood, FL, Thomas and wife Kathie of Brookfield, WI, Randy and wife Donna of Suffolk, VA, William and wife Ruth of Pikeville, KY, and James and wife Emily of Apex, NC; 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and a brother, Frederic Harry Lavey, of Rhinelander, WI.

Betty graduated from Wauwatosa High School in 1942 and took classes at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. She worked at the Milwaukee Journal for several years. Betty married Len in 1947. She quit work to become a full time mother in 1951. While living in Wisconsin, Betty was active in Cub Scouts, PTA at various schools, and volunteering with a hearing screening program for children.

In 1980, the family moved to Raleigh. Betty volunteered with Welcome Wagon and Newcomers Club. She and Len volunteered for many years at Raleigh Community Hospital. They were members of North Raleigh United Methodist Church.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, May 13, 2013 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh, NC 27609.
