As a young man out of Pittsville, Virginia, he married his childhood sweetheart, Lodema in July 1943. A veteran, he flew with General Chennault’s Flying Tigers in China during WWII, known for their repeated bravery for flying over the sky reaching Himalaya Mountains.
After working for Firestone and Savage Tire in Danville, VA., he came to Raleigh in 1949, and started Hunt General Tire Company which became one of the largest commercial tire dealers in the state. Mr. Hunt co-founded the North Carolina Tire Dealers Assoc., served on national dealer boards for Michelin Tire, General Tire, and Bandag, Inc. The company was given the coveted Bandag award as one of top retreading companies in the U.S. A Christian, his employees loved working for him and several did for over 25-30 years.
A world traveler, he and Dema enjoyed their times together and the memories created. From watching Don Larson pitching his perfect World Series game and a faithful member of the Wolfpack Club, as a former athlete, he enjoyed athletics. During his semi-retirement years, he served as president of the Coral Bay Condominiums as he enjoyed his time with his best friends.
A special thanks to Hospice for their Professional care during the last few weeks.
