

Claude Wayland Harris, 89, of Raleigh, passed away on July 7, 2012 of a recent illness. Claude was born April 23, 1923 in Lenior County, NC, son of the late Rev. Floyd L. Harris and Vera Stroud Harris. Claude was married for over fifty years to Clellie Ann Wiggs Harris. They were the parents of the late Sarah J. Harris, Floyd W. Harris and wife Ann, Sue E. Wrather and husband, Jim. Grandfather of Meg Wrather of Nashville, Tennessee, Amy Wrather of Greensboro, and Theresa Sommerville her husband, Matthew and their children Emma and Evan of Franklinton, also survived by sisters, Anne Rouse of Lexington Park, Maryland and Faye Page of Kinston. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters.
Claude retired from the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office in 1985 and enjoyed a long retirement of family, friends, bridge, golf, and church. He served with distinction in World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a deacon and Sunday School teacher for over forty years at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Raleigh.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 10th at 10 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 8304 Leesville Rd., Raleigh, NC. Family will receive friends in the church at 9 a.m. prior to the services, and also at the home of Floyd and Ann Harris, 5409 Emerson Dr. that afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. Donations may be made in Claude’s memory to the church’s debt retirement fund.
