Doris Bridges Hughes

Doris Bridges Hughes, 83, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully August 24, 2012. She was born in Spindale, NC, and the daughter of the late Alphonso C. Bridges and Blanche G. Bridges. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother Charles M. “Pete” Bridges.

Doris served the public in various positions with the City of Burlington, and more than twenty five years as a claims administrator with the Social Security Administration.

Her passions in life included her books, baking, antiques, friends and family. She was a faithful member of the Bay Leaf Baptist Church in North Raleigh. As an avid reader, she maintained a more than twenty year dedication to her favorite book club. She considered her book club members a part of her family. Also, she held dear to her the “Fab Five” friends that she shared lunch with monthly since retiring from work.

She is survived by William L Hughes and Mary Elizabeth Hughes, and their children, William Andrew Hughes, Samuel Lawrence Hughes, Amelia Rose Jamieson and Carly Elizabeth Jamieson. Other surviving family include: Jim and Bobbie Bridges, Susan and Rick Faulkner, Janie Petardi, Arlene and Kent Thompson, Jimmi Anne and Scott Johnson, Betty Bridges, Kristi Wilkes, and Nita Murray. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Please join our celebration of her life at the Bay Leaf Baptist Church, 12200 Bayleaf Church Road, Raleigh, NC 27614. The family will receive friends at 10 am followed by a service at 11 am. A brief service will be held at 3pm at the Alamance Memorial Park, 4039 S. Church Street, Burlington, NC 27215.
