I decided to take a trip down memory lane today. I don't know why I waited this long to look up Dr. Leet. He saved my life. Not in a dramatic, cinematic way. But when no one else would listen to my mom, he discovered a blockage in my ureter that had been there since birth. I was 5. He did eight surgeries on me to try and save that kidney. After the 8th one and no signs of functioning, he took it out. I have had zero issues since. He took a family that struggled to find answers for years and gave them peace, and I will always be grateful. Thanks, Dr. Leet. 

I never met Dr. Leet, but my husband was a patient of his for several years and has shared wonderful stories about him over the years. My husband just learned this weekend of his passing and we were both in shock. This was definitely sad news. We are thankful to Dr. Leet who was there for my husband at the beginning of his journey dealing with cancer in 2004. He did everything he could to help my husband until he moved to a doctor at Duke per a clinical trial. We are still fighting the fight and are thankful to Dr. Leet in those early days doing all he could to help. Your family is in our thoughts and we will continue to share those wonderful stories about Dr. Leet to keep his memory alive.

Barbara and family-  I just now learned of Douglas' passing.  I searched on Google after not hearing from him in a long time.  I would have been at his funeral had I known.  He was a good friend to me in the relatively short time I knew him, and his friendship was definitely one of the good things that came out of my battle with colon cancer.  I will miss him dearly. Deeply saddened to just learn of Dr. Leet's passing. He treated me for kidney cancer in May 2000 and pronounced me cured 1 year later. His compassionate yet competent treatment was always positive and uplifting. I cannot imagine a more professional, personal physician to place one's trust in. 
I have been richly blessed since that grave period in my life and I thank Dr. Leet to a large degree for making this blessing possible.

Dr. Leet is a charismatic and compassionate doctor and gentlemen. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. May all things good come to you, especially in the coming year.

I just learned of Dr. Leet's passing. My prayers and blessings go out to the family and others he touched. Dr. Leet saved my life from kidney cancer and today I celebrated 7 years cancer free. But upon my follow up visit today I learned of his passing. So what mixed emotions I have today. Dr. Leet touched my life in a profound way. I loved his careing, concerned, and sincere way and demeanor to me on our visits. I know from my follow-up visit to his successor to my case that he was loved and highly regarded by his colleagues as well.

Dear family, so sorry to hear about Dr. Leet, I was his patient for many years.  He will truly be missed.  I always enjoyed his great sense of humor.

Though we met when I was a young Attending and Doug a Resident, these roles were blurred as we cruised the halls of the hospital in Danville, VA.  If a young and inexperienced attending could make a wish, that wish would be for a knowledgeable, self-reliant, skilled and energetic Resident.   I was the one making the wish and Doug was the wish come true.  He stood apart from the rest of the residents by virtue of his surgical maturity and intellectual capabilities.   I have always said that surgery is a learned behavior, certainly true for me,but Doug was a natural with the best hands of anyone I have ever encountered.   Doug knew he was good but he had no hubris, just self assurance and a  commitment to do his very best for his patients.  Barbara, your loss is profound and our sympathy goes out to you knowing how little we can do to assuage your grief.  He  was a great man and he will be missed.

Did not become aware until May 3.  wish I had been aware sooner.  I can only hope the email banter between us eased the pain and journey.  He was my Urologist, my fellow pilot and my friend. Rest well Dr. Leet and remembering the poem "High Flight"  you have now "reached out and touched the face of God."

I am so sorry that Dr. Leet has passed away.He had successfully treated me for prostate cancer in 2012 and I had regarded him not only as a doctor but also as a friend.His determination to help me was a main factor in my recovery. God bless him.

In 2001 Dr. Leet found that I was in the early stages of Prostate Cancer.  I credit his findings to have very well may have saved my life.  I am now 81 and all my contacts with Dr. Leet have been most rewarding.. He later help me through kidney stone surgery.  I have missed his services and my contacts with him for the last few years. My fondest memory of Dr. Leet involves him rushing down the hall frequently late for his 12:30 pm cases; Diet Coke in hand.  He had a great sense of humor, was a very good teacher and often spoke of his love for flying and his love for his family. He was missed and will be missed by his Rex Family.  My prayers and thoughts today are with Dr. Leet's wife, Barbara, his children, father and siblings.

Barbara, So sorry to hear the news about Doug.  I know this is such a difficult time.  Praying for comfort and peace.  So grateful for your love and support over the past 3 years.  He will be greatly missed!  He was such a wonderful person and a great physician and colleague.  Love to your family.

Dr. Leet was not only a wonderful Urologist, he was also a dear friend who would often pick my brains for many years regarding Horticulture. He would always have a group of questions waiting for me when I visited him. After he did his research he would share his findings with me and challenging me to prove otherwise making our conversations great while he tried to stump me.

Dear Barbara and family, my deepest sympathy to all upon the passing of Dr. Leet. He was a wonderful Urologist who helped me through my crisis back in 2012. His thoroughness of treatment, deep concern, gentle kindness and great sense of humor made me look forward to my appointments with him. We had many laughs along the way. He played a vital role in my recovery. He will be sorely missed in the hearts of all his patients.

I was very sorry to hear of Doug's passing.  We enjoyed residency, working, and traveling together.


It is never easy to lose a loved one, I pray that you find comfort In God's promise found at John 6:40 which says that soon we will see all our loved ones again. My deepest condolences to the family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very difficult time.  Dr. Leet was an excellent physician and friend!  He treated our son, David, from the age of 3 months to adulthood.  David is now in his first year of residency in Hawaii as an Urologist!!  Dr. Leet was truly an inspiration to David and a wonderful role model!  He was very compassionate and always willing to help David and others!  We always looked forward to visiting Dr. Leet over the years.  Thank you so very much for sharing him with our family. He will truly be missed by us and so many others!  May the wonderful memories you have give you strength, comfort, peace and hope for the days to come.

Doug was an excellent physician. He treated me in 1988 and I have been without that problem ever since.  He was at the top of his field and was caring and personable at the same time.  May he rest in peace.

Barbara and family.  I am truly sorry that I cannot be with you on Thursday for Doug's memorial.  Doug was always a great friend and colleague.  I always admired his energy, enthusiasm and endless curiosity.  He taught all of us how to deal with a devastating illness with courage, grace and always his characteristic boundless energy.
