Edward Evelio Alling, 82, was called home suddenly to be with his Lord and Savior on July 9, 2021 in Raleigh, NC.

Edward was born in Panama in 1939 and moved to New Jersey with this mother in 1947 at the age of 8. At 18, Edward joined the United States Air Force and was a proud veteran for 20 years. He rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant. After retiring from the military, Edward embarked on a career as a prison guard at Central Prison of Raleigh. Edward finished his career as a security guard at Duke Raleigh Hospital.

Edward enjoyed playing the guitar and writing music. Edward was a very devout Catholic who lived his faith. Most of Edward's time and life was spent helping others. He touched many people's lives, not only with his generous spirit, but his heart of gold. Edward was the first to raise his hand to help with whatever task was needed. Whether it was assisting others with rides to doctor appointments, moving furniture, shopping, or helping sick friends, and you could always count on him.

Edward is preceded in death by his mother, Angela Alling and daughter, Elizabeth Rivera.

Edward is survived by his lifelong best friend, Nell Coletta, a son, Richard (Michele), grandchildren; William Alling, Dylan Alling, Frankie Rivera, Christine Rivera, and JJ Rodriguez, great-grandchildren; Ana, Aldo Jr, and Rosie and former spouse Mildred Alling.

He will be forever remembered by his many friends to cherish his memory for his dedication to his faith, loving to gather with friends to celebrate with good food and laughs, and his compassion for loving to help his fellow man and friends. He will be deeply missed by all that love him, especially Dewey, the cat.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 15, at 11:30 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. Burial will be held at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make donations to a charity of one’s choice.

So saddened to learn that Eddie has left us but know heaven has gained a special angel. We will always remember him as being kind and soft spoken and a pleasure to be around. We were so blessed to have known him and shared time together over the years. We will miss getting his Christmas cards, hearing him play his guitar and Eddie just being Eddie. Prayers for those who knew and loved him.
