Ella W. Smithson

Ella was born December 15, 1937 to George Eliot Wood and Thelma Harris Wood. She was employed with Bell South and retired with over 30 years of service. Following her retirement she enjoyed providing care for children as a preschool assistant. Ella was an active member of Millbrook United Methodist Church where she was a children’s Sunday school teacher for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, of 40 years, Thomas Clifton Smithson.

Ella is survived by her son, Michael Smithson his wife, Susan and granddaughter Mollie Grace of Clayton; sisters, Carol Davis and her husband, Arnold of Virginia Beach, VA; and Toni Mayo of Mechanicsville, VA; brothers, George Wood and his wife, Beverly; and Paige Wood; both of Rocky Mount; sister-in-law, Anna Kilgo and her husband, Billy of Rocky Mount.

The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. A memorial service will be held 11:00am Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Millbrook United Methodist Church, 1712 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. Inurnment will be at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Alan Kritz, MD, Jessica Casselberry, and the staff of Cancer Centers of North Carolina for their care and compassion.
