I worked with Ewell for many years.  He was a great leader.  I shared in his grief from losing Judy and enjoyed his bragging over Bill and Jimmy. I regret that we lost connection in the last years.  Prayers for his family and I hope the memories are sweet!

Ewell was like a second dad to me!  I was so blessed to have been his neighbor and friend for life after that!  Ewell taught me many skills and always let me paint the trim. He said I was faster than he was!!  If  you knew Ewell you know what a perfectionist he was😊  just the thought of him brings a smile to my face. As stated he was a true gentlemen and always  there to lend a hand or take time to have a beer with me or a little Scotch on his birthday or other special event! I have a picture of me and Ewell on my book case with us sawing up trees from Fran!! Him and Jerome almost killed me cutting and hauling those trees but I kept up!  That was the start of our bonding  Ewell, Jerome and me!  Always loved it when we got together for a cigar and chat!  Jimmy your Dad loved you guys to the moon and back and always was proud of what you achieved and  he bragged about you often!!!  I was so so blessed to know  him as he enriched my life forever.   Soar with the Angels Ewell and  I will see you when we meet again in heaven my dear friend. ❤️

I have only one sibling and she has only one father in law, so I don’t know how typical this is, but I loved Ewell Morgan. He was kind, a true southern gentleman, and a proud and loving father and grandfather. His presence in the room was always welcome. He left you feeling cared for and important.

If his son is an indication of the kind of parent he was, he must have been exceptional. Jimmy is the best dad to my niece, Tryne, that a doting aunt could hope for. Jimmy’s dedication to Ewell in his illness has been an example of filial love and care that has filled us with admiration for their bond and Jimmy’s character. Jimmy’s love of their homeplace in VA and his work to renovate it is another testament to the connection between him and his father. The farmhouse was always important to Ewell and Jimmy has taken on the care and improvement of it. During the years of his illness, Jimmy would often take Ewell along for the weekend when he went up to look after the place. He would tell us fond, wry and humorous stories of Ewell’s comments on the work that he was doing and his offers to “help”. That sense of humor was something that I think Jimmy got from Ewell. He always had a mischievous glint in his eyes.

He was a sweet father in law to my sister, Koren. He treated her with the respect and love that you would hope for, and gracefully accepted her help as he declined. She was creative and persistent in finding ways to support him for the years that he lived independently at home. Recently, she enjoyed sharing both tender and humorous stories of his wit and charm that persisted even at the hospital. The morning that Ewell passed, she was preparing to outfit his room at the memory care home with pictures and touches of home that would make it warm and comfortable. 

It is clear that Ewell’s loving, loyal, mischievous, warm spirit lives on in Jimmy and Tryne. We see it in them in so many ways and will remember Ewell always through them.
