Irene Cherdack Dansky, 75, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2016 due to complications from cancer. Born in Brooklyn, she worked as an educator in the New York City and Cheltenham, Pennsylvania public school systems. She also was involved with charitable causes such as the American Cancer Society, resettling Russian refuseniks in the United States, and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Saul Dansky; her three children, Rebecca Dansky and partner, Jason Schlauch, Marla Sullivan and husband, Ian, and Richard Dansky and wife, Dr. Melinda Thielbar; her two grandchildren, Jacob and Paige Sullivan; her siblings Harriette Goldstein, Robert Cherdack, and Phyllis Goldstein.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh. Burial will follow at Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery, 450 N. State Street, Raleigh.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Duke Cancer Center Patient Support Program.
