Jim was unassuming and quiet, with an underlying twinkle and spirit that will be forever missed by his family and friends. He was born on January 25, 1948 in Rhinebeck, New York. Jim was techie before the word became popular—running the movies at the local movie theatre at 15 and building his own TV from a kit at age 17. Consistently on the Dean’s List at Dutchess Community College, he later graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY.
He married his best friend Margaret on August 10, 1970 while serving in the U.S. Army in Germany. After several years of service, Jim worked a total of 38 years with IBM. While in Raleigh, he became IBM’s Corporate Auditor and later became the Manager of Global Services for Latin and South America for 6 years until his retirement in 2006.
He became a passionate HAMM Radio operator, enjoyed driving his red Corvette, and watching movies in the local theaters. He also was a small aircraft pilot with instrument ratings and instructor ratings. Jim will be remembered for his gentle manner, kindness and quick wit.
He is survived by his wife Margaret of 48 years; daughters, Renee and Leah; son-in-law, Joey; life partner, Nathan; two grandsons, Gino and Xhorael; and brother, Mark.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
