Roy was born in Wilmington NC June 11, 1933 where he resided until his entrance into military service at age 17. He served honorably in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He met his sweetheart, Lydia Gail Morrow on a blind date and they married on February 12, 1954. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary with friends and family.
Roy retired from the US Postal Service after 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Gail, son William L. Dawkins, and daughter-in-law, Helen E. Dawkins and was the proud grandpa to Richard W. Dawkins, his sister Andrea Dawkins Vega, and her husband Carl Vega.
A devoted family man, Roy loved the holidays, especially Christmas and spent all his holidays and vacations with his family. His hobbies were fishing, golfing and bowling. He coached his little league baseball team, "The Lions are Roaring" to an undefeated season, and loved going to Charlotte Checkers hockey games with his son, Bill. His sunny disposition was a gift to all who loved him, and he was always ready with a good joke.
