Lorene Murphy Etheridge, 88, passed away May 6, 2018 after many years of declining health. She was born June 26, 1929 in Charity, NC. Lorene is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Raeford Murphy of Charity, NC, her mother Eva Bennett Murphy Cowell, and sister and brother-in-law, Lynette and Wendell Owen of Raleigh.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Gordon S. Etheridge, daughter Gloria and husband Rick Richardson of Raleigh, daughter Jill and husband Ronnie Stancil of Knightdale, daughter Pamela and husband Duane Smith of Garner, grandsons Clint Richardson of Wilmington, Jason and wife Kristen Boggs of Clayton, and Zachary Mussler of Garner, great-grandsons Trent and Harrison Boggs of Clayton, sister-in-law, Jean Inge of South Mills, a niece, nephews and cousins dear to her heart.
Lorene and Gordon met at Louisburg College. After graduating, they were married on April 8, 1950 in Charity, NC. Lorene was the bookkeeper for their business, Etheridge Produce LLC, for the first 25 years of the 63 years Etheridge Produce LLC was in business. Lorene was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a gracious hostess and wonderful cook who so enjoyed welcoming family and friends to her beautiful home for delicious meals and fellowship. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, playing with her grandchildren and spending time at their house at Carolina Beach. She was beloved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 9, at 12:45 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC, 27609. A funeral service will be held at Brown-Wynne at 2:00 PM May 9. A burial service will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park 7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612.
