Malcolm John Thomson, 85, died in Raleigh, North Carolina, on March 12, after a long illness. Mal was born in Sydney, Australia; he was very proud to be a fair dinkum Aussie. His coming to American happened in 1957. Mal attended Peabody College, Baylor, Wheaton, and Vanderbilt.
In 1979, Mal married Judy, his “best girl.” They enjoyed their marriage and each other for 41 years. Music, good conversation, humor, and travel they enthusiastically shared.
His work life included being a national sales manager for Chromcraft; serving drug and alcohol patients as a therapist; and acting as a manager of training at FedEx.
Mal is survived by his wife and 2 sons, Kevin (Holly) and Kepler (Rachel). Papa Mal delighted in being a grandfather to Peyton, Sylvie, and Madeleine. He will be missed by other family members and friends.
There will be a family and friends service on March 20 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E Millbrook Road. Visitation is at 2:30; celebrant minister Larry Fife will officiate at the 3:00 service. Later, when gatherings are easier, there will be a larger celebration of Mal’s interesting journey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607. Out family is deeply appreciative for the care we received from Hospice.
