Born in 1931 in Western Pennsylvania in the town of Meadville, Marilyn May grew up thru the Great Depression where her father owned the local Red & White grocer store. She married Herbert W. Slater Jr. in 1951 after graduating from Grove City College in PA. Marilyn raised four sons as a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed her family, cooking for them, playing bridge club cards, boating with Herb and she even taught herself how to paint. She regularly attended and studied the Bible and being a born-again Christian was important to her. She and Herb moved to Florida in 1978 to work in their own hotel business there, continuing to enjoy boating by taking several long-distance boat trips. In "retirement", she and Herb volunteered in various endeavors such as Kiwanis Thrift Store and House of Hope for women in Florence SC. Moving to N. Carolina in 2010 to be closer to family, she enjoyed seeing her children and grandchildren most. She continued to love and serve others until her physical health limited her. She always worked hard, never complained and never took the limelight. She will be missed.
A graveside service for Marilyn will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Rd, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
