Martha "Mimi" Ellin (Sherrill) Dunn

Martha was born in Valdese NC on May 24, 1937. She graduated from Durham High School and as an adult continued her education at Meredith College. She worked for the State of North Carolina for 32 years before she retired in 2011. She received the state’s highest honor – Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award for her service to the state. Martha was married to Charles J Dunn, former director of the State Bureau of Investigation, on Dec 29,1964; they were married 58 years.

She enjoyed spending time with family and spoiling her grandchildren. She was also actively involved in the Adult Discussion Class at St Mark's United Methodist Church.

Martha is survived by her children, Sherrill D Jones and her husband Sam, Charles “Jay” Dunn, III and his wife Brenda and Lelia “Lea” Tackett. As well as her 5 grandchildren- Charlie and Maddie Jones, Charles and Sawyer Dunn, and Wesley Tackett. She also left behind her sweet kitty, Macaroni and Cheese.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles.

A visitation at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church will be held at 10:00 am, Friday December 30, 2022. The celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am, with a burial at Oakwood Cemetery to follow.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the NC Alzheimer’s Association.
