Patricia Ann Kessel, 69, of Greenville, NC passed away on September 13th, 2025. She was born May 25th, 1956 in Silver Spring, Maryland and was the daughter of Barbara Crowell (Hallock) and James Herbert. She graduated from Perry High School in 1974 and then began education and a career as an accountant in the Washington DC Metro Area.
She initially worked in public accounting and then spent more than 20 years as the controller of B’nai Israel in Rockville, MD. While working in public accounting, she met, fell in love with and married Richard (Rick) Kessel. They have two children, Charles (Charlie) Kessel (Ayden, NC) and Rachel Eller (Zebulon, NC), whom she is survived by.
She was preceded in death by her father James and step-father Gregory Crowell.
In addition to her children, she is survived by Rick (Greenville, NC) and her two grandchildren – Sophia Kessel, Blake Kessel and one grandson on the way. She is also survived by her sibling Sharon Hansen (Petoria, AZ) and countless cousins, aunts and uncles.
We could write a never-ending list of the things she loved, but the most important one would be her family – spending time with family whether they were biological or not. If you were considered family, you know all of the love and everything she gave. Some of the memorable times are of various trips up and down the east coast, cruise adventures, Disney world adventures, creating items through arts and crafts, shopping, going to festivals, hang out sessions around the house, trips to the NC mountains, leading girl scout troops and cub scout dens and spending holidays together whether it was religious or secular.
Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family especially as the family started growing. She never let a birthday or anniversary go unnoticed without some type of card, gift, phone call or dinner. Her two favorite love languages were cooking/baking and gift giving no matter what the reason from moving into a new home or into a new life adventure all the way to hosting a party or having overflowing stacks of gifts on birthdays, Chanukah and Christmas.
She loved all of her fur babies that she has had over the years from cats to guinea pigs to ferrets and some reptiles in-between. Each fur baby was treated just as if they were human and had the best lives and were spoiled. We are confident the ones she lost along the way were there with wagging tails and sloppy kisses to greet her on the other side.
A graveside internment service is planned for September 17th at 10:30 am at Raleigh Memorial Park on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh, NC.
