I learned of Rich's passing while on vacation with no access to the internet.  He was a good friend and I have known him for many years.  We worked together at WKIX radio in Raleigh and kept up with each other  over the years.  He was also a friend on my son, Patrick.  He attended Patrick's Eagle Scout ceremony in Wilmington and took pictures.  Rich will be missed.  Tommy Walker

Thanks to a faithful and caring high school classmate, I send my deepest sympathies and condolences to Richard's wife and son and family.  He was one of Newport's best.  May you find peace and comfort for all the good and loving memories, and may you continue to have faith and hope in the life to come.

Ever the sharp dresser, never at a loss for words and always the consummate professional, Rich was a class act. I loved every time we had occasion to spend time together over our radio and advertising careers. Rich will be truly missed. Sincerest thoughts and prayers for the family.

My brother Jim and I were in Richard's class in high school.  He was always fun to be around and ALWAYS happy and of course well-liked.  Our sympathies are with the family

Dear Bonnie, I was so terribly sorry to hear of Rich's passing. I know your loss is greater but the great memories you have are greater still. He always referred to you as the Lovely Bonnie. He was a part of the ups and downs in my life since the Spring of 1967. There is too much to say here but that on several occasions in my life, both good and bad, Rich was the first person to come and see me.
