A native of Pucallpa, Peru, Rocio was the daughter of the late Fernando Sanchez Vela and Fidelia Rengifo de Sanchez. Upon marrying her husband, Jose Luis Mera, she moved to her new home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Rocio was an active member of the St. Raphael’s parish. She made her family her focal point and could often be found watching her children’s activities at school and on the soccer field. Rocio was always quick to smile and laugh. Rocio would offer her ear to listen to friends and family and a word or two of encouragement and advice. Everyone who knew Rocio will miss her delicious cooking, especially her pollo con mani, sopa de camaron, Aji de Gallina, and tres leches cake. She was a loving daughter and sister, travelling back to Peru often to visit with her family and friends. Rocio was not just a mother to her children but also a friend who would listen to and support them. Rocio loved to open her home up to family and friends and often could be seen dancing in her living room. She always had a variety of music playing as she went about the business of taking care of her family.
Rocio is survived by her husband, Jose Luis Mera; daughter Valeria Nicolette Mera, son, Luis Fernando Mera of Raleigh; mother, Fidelia Rengifo de Sanchez; siblings Fernando Sanchez, Cheryl Begoña Sanchez, Narda Beverly Sanchez, Lila Esperanza Sanchez, Juan Pablo Sanchez, and Lorenzo Juller Sanchez.
