Roy Earl Young

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin Young and Lucy Roux; his brothers, Buddy Young and Billy Young; and his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Lynn Young. He is survived by his brother, Don Young; his children, Chad Young (Alexis) and Nikki Dickens (Deshawn); his grandson, Carter Dickens; and Jennifer Richardson (Tim), who became like a daughter through years of caregiving, milestones, and everyday family life.

Earl found joy in the simple but steady rhythms of life: cheering on his UNC Tar Heels, keeping his lawn trimmed to perfection (a true point of pride), and spending more than 40 years with his second family at Ihrie Supply, where coworkers and customers became lifelong friends. Above all, his greatest joy was being “Pops” to Carter, who brought out a playful, tender side that his family cherished.

A celebration of Earl’s life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC, with family reflections beginning at 2:30 PM.
