Sally was born July 3, 1948 in Somerville, New Jersey. Growing up, she was very involved in her church youth group and was a member of her high school debate team. She graduated from Bridgewater Raritan High School in 1966. Sally then attended Montclair State University where she graduated with a degree in Social Sciences Education. In 1980, Sally relocated to Raleigh along with her husband, Bruce, and their daughters.
As a stay at home mom when her daughters were young, Sally was actively involved in PTAs at her children’s schools and volunteered extensively in the classroom and at extracurricular activities, especially with Concert Dancers of Raleigh where she and her husband were board members for many years.
As her daughters grew older, Sally worked as an office manager for many years before returning to school and receiving her Associates in Accounting from Wake Tech in 2001. Following her new degree, Sally was a bookkeeper for American Human Services and then The Cypress before retiring in 2014.
Sally enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the NC Crystal Coast where she was an active community member in Pine Knoll Shores. She also enjoyed needlework, knitting, and crocheting- often putting her talents to use to help charities like Project Linus and making knit hats for NICU units.
Sally was dedicated to her family, always present with her unflappable support and love. She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Bruce D. Carbrey. Sally is survived by her three daughters: Katie Sawicki (Todd) and grandchildren Gwendolyn and Matthew of Seattle, Washington; Evalyn Carbrey (Fernando) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Betsy Castellow (James) and grandsons Brighton and Huntley of Raleigh.
