

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Gerard Gettinger, who departed from this world on October 24, 2023, in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the age of 59.
Tom was born on February 16, 1964, in St. Louis, Missouri, to his parents, Richard and Mary Gettinger. He grew up to be a remarkable individual, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
After graduating from Chaminade College Preparatory School in St. Louis, Missouri in 1982, Tom embarked on his journey in higher education. Earning an Athletic Scholarship to Wake Forest University, he played soccer for all four years, became team captain, and obtained his Bachelor's degree in Biology. Later, he received a Masters in Health Administration from Duke University.
With his educational foundation solidified, Tom embarked on a distinguished 30-year career in Healthcare Administration, commencing with his Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. His unwavering dedication to the healthcare industry led him through various roles: Byerly Hospital in Hartsville, where he served as Assistant Administrator; Moses Cone in Greensboro, where he held the esteemed position of President; WakeMed Health and Hospitals, where he was the Chief Operating Officer; and Mary Washington Healthcare, where he continued to shine as Chief Operating Officer.
In 2018, Tom commenced his well-deserved retirement, savoring the chance to indulge in his cherished pastimes: spending time at his mountain house, coaching soccer, teeing off on the golf course, cherishing moments with his children, and sharing the company of his beloved dog, Maya.
The legacy of Tom lives on, deeply ingrained in the hearts of his beloved family. He is survived
by; His furry best friend, Maya; Loving Parents: Richard and Mary Gettinger; Adoring Children: Blake Gettinger (32), Lauren Clay (29) and her husband Langdon Clay (30), and Brandon Gettinger (26); Siblings: Dan Gettinger (married to Kathy Gettinger) and Michele Nowicki (married to Kit Nowicki); Precious Grandson: Langdon Beckham Clay (5 months).
