Virginia Sharp Williamson passed quietly into that gentle place in the early morning of Nov. 30, 3013, bringing her ever present gifts of love and laughter. Somewhere it’s a little brighter today; somewhere a little more joyful.
Virginia was born in Wilson County in July of 1920, the eldest child of Thad and Eva Sharp, followed by three younger brothers, George, Dalton, and Thad Jr., with whom she enjoyed a lifetime of shared love and devotion.
Virginia graduated from Rock Ridge High School, where she was selected as best all-around student, and from Hardbarger Business College, where her sample books were preserved as an example for future students. Early in her career, she worked with the State Attorney General’s Office and the Department of Health. Most of her career was spent with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, where she worked as administrative assistant to the chief engineer for District 8, and where she developed and maintained many cherished friendships.
Virginia was an active member of First Baptist Church of Aberdeen for many years, and in later years was a member of Greystone Baptist Church in Raleigh. During her years in Aberdeen, she was a member of the Cardinal Book Club, a very special circle of friends.
Virginia was a resident of Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh for the last 15 years of her life, where she enjoyed meeting many friends, old and new. Her family wishes to extend special thank you’s to the staff and friends at Springmoor for their dedication and loving care in making these years, and her passing, comfortable and secure.
Virginia passed peacefully after a brief illness at the Stewart Health Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland; her brother, Dalton; and sister-in-law, Doris.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Eve and Fred Conner; her son, Wiley Williamson; by two granddaughters and their husbands, Julie Allred (Todd), and Jaime Strohhacker (Erich); and her five beloved great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the auditorium at Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Nobles Chapel Baptist Church, Sims. Family and close friends are invited to gather for food and fellowship at the church afterward.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Springmoor Endowment Fund, 1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh, NC 27615, or Nobles Chapel Baptist Church, 7330 Old Raleigh Road, Sims, NC 27880.
