

Walter McMelon Campbell, 85, passed away Monday, January 5, 2026, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Born August 28, 1940, in Rome, Georgia, Walter was the son of the late Roy and Margaret Campbell.
After graduating from high school, Walter proudly served four years in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he began a long and dedicated career with IBM, where he worked for 40 years in Burlington and Raleigh, North Carolina.
Walter loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, camping, and water skiing. He found great joy in teaching many young people to water ski each summer. In retirement, he fulfilled his love of travel by purchasing an RV and logging over 92,000 miles, visiting every state, including Alaska.
Walter also devoted his time to Trinity Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.
Walter was also preceded in death by his brothers, Levon and Ronnie Campbell, and his eldest daughter, Kathy, who passed away in 2021.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Nell Campbell; his daughter, Kimberly Skiba (David); his son, Stephen Campbell (Kerri); one grandson; three granddaughters; and his sister, Martha Haughton (Fergie) of Rome, Georgia.
Walter’s presence will be greatly missed by his family and friends, whose lives he touched.
A visitation will be held on January 12, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Trinity Baptist Church, located at 4815 Six Forks Rd, Raleigh, NC, 27609. A memorial service will follow on January 12, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the same location.
Inurnment will take place on January 12, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm at Trinity Baptist Church.
