He is survived by his wife of 54 years Barbara McGloin, his son Scott and wife Stacy McGloin, granddaughters Talyna Putnam and husband Alex, Jessica McGloin, Michelle McGloin with Bill’s future son-in-law Chris Rossetti and great-grandchildren Koby and Eli Rossetti. He is also survived by his brothers Rick and wife Robyn McGloin, Rob and wife Lori McGloin, Sister Barbara and husband Lyn Daberkow and sister-in-law Betty Lou Malesky. He also has several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Marion McGloin.
Bill spent eight years in the Air Force before joining IBM where he worked until he retired after 25 years. Finding the need to pursue his true interests he disposed of the neck ties and became a RVIA certified RV technician. He spent 13 years working at Creech’s RV until his second and final retirement. Bill was also a long time member of the American Legion Post #1 twice serving as Post Commander.
In retirement he found himself able to pursue his true passion of Street Rods. His proudest possession was the 1939 Ford Street Rod which he designed and customized with his own hands. Bill and Barbara were members of the Ramblin’ Rebels Street Rod’s and Piedmont Classic Chevy clubs. Bill’s car was well known in the Street Rod community and won many awards throughout the country including several Best in Show. Bill and Barbara were able to drive this car through 29 states and Canada accumulating over 98000 miles along the way always having great times and making many new friends and memories along the way.
When not touring around the country in his car Bill spent his time tinkering around the house. He always had numerous projects going throughout the year. He also was enjoying his retirement time with his wife Barbara. They did everything together always having a good time along the way. They enjoyed a new found list of interests and hobbies from trying new dining spots to sampling new wines. Bill enjoyed spending time with his three granddaughters who brought him so much joy. He was their rock and will miss him very much. He also loved spending time with his three year old Great-Grandson Koby. He was on his way to making Koby a Street Rodder. Koby loved spending time with PaPa in the garage fixing things and will miss him much. Bill also enjoyed getting together with his two brothers Rick and Rob when they could. Put the three of them in a room and they became teenagers with laughter all around.
Bill has many, many friends young and old past and present. He touched all of them in one form or another whether being there to help on a project or just to lend an ear. He was always there for people he knew and even ones he didn’t. He will be greatly missed by his family and all that new him. My father was one of a kind.
Services will be performed by Ronnie Williams who was one of Bill’s oldest friends.
In lieu of flowers please hug a loved one or friend and tell them you love them. You can also make donations to the SPCA of Wake County.
